Gasoline ran through young Carmen Jorda's veins and she has been attracted to the motor world ever since she was very small.

She began taking her first driving steps with junior=stage karts at the age of 10, and began her first races in the Valencian Community Championship at 11. After much sacrifice and many hours of training on circuits, she joined the higher categories. In 2000, she was third in the Yamaha Valencian Community Championship category at the age of 12. In 2003, she decided to travel to England to study and improve her English.

In 2004, after returning from England, she did trials and some modeling work. Then 2005 was her first year in the Formula Master Junior, this being a championship of learning when riders leave karts and go on to single-seaters. This championship consists of 21 races over 7 weekends and it coincides with the F-3 and the GT championships. Apart from a good number of spectators, this event is well covered by the media and press, radio and television as all the participants are under the age of 18. In 2006, Carmen drove for the same Circuit, and in the same category since she was 17 years old, in order to be able to enter higher formulas during the following year like the F-3. During this season, Carmen obtained good results and did several tests for the F-3, plus a test with a DTM on the Hockenheim circuit with Valentino Rossi. In 2007, Carmen enjoyed her first F-3 season, the most important national single-seater competition which is acknowledged as being a stage to gain access to Formula 1. She came in fourth place, stood on the podium three times in the Spanish Cup, and was the first woman to achieve this in the Spanish F-3. Since 2008, Carmen has been a member of the Campos Racing Team. She is currently participating with the Hache Team in both the European F-3 open and the Le Mans series.

Andersen Racing Signs Jorda For 2010 Firestone Indy Lights Season

Andersen Racing is pleased to announce that it will field a car for 21-year-old Carmen Jorda of Alcoy, Spain in Firestone Indy Lights this year.

Jorda, who will be based in Miami while racing in the United States, competed in the European Formula 3 Open and the European Formula 3 Open Copa de España series last year. She had two podium finishes in the latter series, including a second at Magny-Cours, France. She also made three starts in the LMP2 class of the Le Mans Series in 2009.

She competed in Spanish Formula 3 and Spanish F3 Copa de España in 2007 and 2008, becoming the first female driver to record a podium finish in either Spanish F3 class.

She competed in Master Junior Formula in 2005 and 2006 after her racing career began in karts at age 11.

Jorda tested with Andersen Racing at both Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Ala., and Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Fla., recently.

Her first race as a member of the Palmetto, Fla.-based team will be March 28 on the street course at St. Petersburg, Fla.

"I'm really excited to be racing in America this year!" Jorda said. "Firestone Indy Lights provides a different challenge to what I am used to in Europe, but I am very much looking forward to the journey.

"Andersen Racing is fantastic!" she added. "I have really enjoyed working with my engineer, Walter Preston, and all of the team members. We still have some important tests coming up before the season gets underway in St. Petersburg, but I am confident we will be ready.

"All of the tracks will be new for me, but this is something which I have to deal with," she continued. "I am sure the experience of the team will help me on this front."

Jorda's goal is to reach the IZOD IndyCar Series and compete in the Indianapolis 500. "Racing at Indianapolis will be a highlight for me this year," she said, referring to the Firestone Freedom 100, a Firestone Indy Lights race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on May 28 prior to the Indy 500. Jorda will celebrate her 22nd birthday that day.

"We're delighted to add Carmen to the Andersen Racing lineup for 2010, and we're expecting great things from her this season," said Dan Andersen, who owns the team with his brother, John. "She clearly demonstrated her commitment and focus at the two recent tests. She showed excellent speed at the Sebring test last week, and lowered her times in each session. She has what is needed to excel in that she brings talent and a willingness to listen and learn, and we know she will surprise a lot of Firestone Indy Lights observers this year."

Jorda follows in the path of Brazil's Mario Romancini, who won two races in Firestone Indy Lights with Andersen Racing in 2009 prior to moving up to the IZOD IndyCar Series this year, and the reigning Firestone Indy Lights champion, Californian J.R. Hildebrand, who was a member of the team in 2008.

Carmen Jorda at Sebring in Indy Lights Car

Walker Racing dusted off its Indy Lights car and hit the track yesterday at Sebring International Raceway. The Indianapolis-based squad completed a very successful one-day test with newcomer, Spanish driver, Carmen Jorda. The 21-year-old made her debut in America yesterday, as she tested the Walker Racing Indy Lights car for the first time. Jorda comes to the U.S. based open-wheel category after spending the majority of her career in Europe. She started racing in 2000 in the Valencian Community Championshiop where she would work her way up the open-wheel ladder. In 2007, Jorda claimed three podiums at Albacete, Magny Cours, and Jerez on her way to finish fourth in the Classified Spanish F3 Championship. She would continue competing in the Classified Spanish FW3 Championshiops for 2008 before moving up to the European Open F3 and Le Mans Series for 2009. Jorda quickly got acclimated to the car and enjoyed it right away. "I really feel it! At first I thought it would be harder for me to adjust, the car is bigger, I don't know why, but it does, so I thought it would be much more difficult, but really it wasn't much different from what I'm used to driving and I enjoyed it a lot," commented Jorda.
